Brunswick Heads

There was a time that Brunswick Heads was little more than a fishing village and a pit stop on the old Pacific Highway; a place to refuel yourself and your car before heading north or south.

But much has changed in its 130-year lifespan and Brunswick Heads has become a thriving township of boutique shopping and first-class cafes. The river ebbs its way through the town, a rustic timber road bridge providing access to the pristine beaches and spectacular views reaching from the Gold Coast to Byron Bay.

A primary school, quiet streets and the sheltered bay of Torakina Beach, a short distance inshore from the river’s mouth, make Brunswick Heads a wonderful environment to raise a young family.

A short distance from the Pacific Highway, Brunswick is just 10 minutes from Byron Bay and 30 from the Gold Coast Airport and Ballina Byron Gateway Airport. The town comes alive year-round with iconic local events including the Mullum to Bruns Paddle, Brunswick Wood Chop, Back To Brunswick Hot Rod Run, Old and Gold and Kite and Bike Festivals.

The acclaimed Hotel Brunswick offers a family-friendly environment and regular live music directly across the road from the river’s tributary and children’s play park. The town’s restaurants offer a range of cuisines to suit all tastes.

The neighbouring Byron Bay and Mullumbimby High Schools provide education for years seven to 12, while Lismore’s Southern Cross University offers higher education just 45 minutes away.

With two camp sites gracing the shore of the Brunswick River, the town is popular through the warmer holiday periods with visitors keen to explore the great outdoors with the conveniences of an urban lifestyle.

The monthly craft and artisan market offers local wares and produce in an idyllic, riverside setting.

Although a diminutive little community of 1,700 residents, Brunswick Heads always has a very full calendar.
